Veteran Nollywood actor Fabian Adibe, renowned for his role in the iconic Things Fall Apart TV adaptation, has passed away at the age of 82. Adibe’s death was confirmed early Wednesday morning, with Best of Nollywood (BON) CEO Seun Oloketuyi announcing: “Things Fall Apart actor, Fabian Adibie, is dead. Died 2:30 a.m. this morning.”

Born on December 1, 1943, in Owerri, Imo State, Adibe celebrated his 82nd birthday earlier this year. He rose to national prominence in 1987 for his portrayal of Ogbuefi Uzowulu in the Nigeria Television Authority adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, performing alongside legends like Pete Edochie.

Over his remarkable career, Adibe appeared in more than 300 productions, including notable film titles such as Slave Warrior (2012), White Kingdom 2 (2014), and Father’s (2014). His performances in international productions — including Soweto (South Africa) and the Hollywood feature Mr. Johnson — further showcased his versatility.

In the 1970s, Adibe was part of the foundational Odunke Artists group, which was instrumental in shaping early Nigerian theatre and cinema. He honed his craft at the University of Ibadan studying Theatre Arts.

News of his passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes across social media. Colleagues and fans affectionately remember him as a “true legend” and a “gentle soul.”
